Tourism Super Integrated Thematic Unit
Tourism is a theme that can lend itself to a wide range of inter-connected activities and makes for a great rich topic. As pupils examine, contrast and investigate Tourism skills they can practise these in authentic learning contexts within the school and/or wider community. They can interact with leaders from the local or national community and be mentored in their own skills and attitudes.
Suggested integrating connections: Look into environmental tourism.

Environment: Look at ways for us to use Tourism that enhances or destroys our environment. Compare and contrast two tourism areas focsing on the same type or resource. (i.e. seals, whales watch, etc)
A look at Tourism businesses.. why has this type of business grown rapidly in the last few years? Interview owners. Establish a "Tourism" business. Check out people who have jobs that involve working with the "Tourism". Put together Powerpoint presentations, digital camera pictures and Video with other display items from your unit.. voile.. a show!

Sport is a tourist opportunity. Look into sports trips that are tourism events (Olympics, commenwealth Games, World Games). Are these sports able to run without tourism? How much of the way they are run comes back to getting spectators invovled? Has the influences of audiences changed over time? (Clue: think technology).
How does tourism affect the health of: the tourist, people who serve them, and the country they go to? What are the benefits and costs?
What technologies have allowed tourism to increase. Has the amount of tourists who now travel our world improved the way countries and the people within them, relate to each other or not?
Scale, ratio, measurement when dealing with maps
Tourism Business: finance, budgets, financial planning, costs and accounts. Tourism Statistics that can be investigated, graphed etc in Excel format (zipped)

Look at issues of "trinket art" and tourism.
Investigate what sort of art is more popular with tourists in your country. Both in terms of what they buy and what they visit or watch (shows etc.)
Read On: Skim and scan material on tourism.
See integrated unit. Summarise aspects of knowledge learned in a drama/video re-enactment.
Re-create a video to sell an important local feature to tourists.

Some people think that we could have intergalatic tourists who visit us. Others think we ma have started from "aliens" as a human race. Could you call God a tourist to Earth? When Jesus walked on Earth was he a tourist visiting from another dimension or something different?
Look at how Tourism impacts on native people or people in a specific area and their connections "creation". Eco-Tourism is part of looking after God's creation.. how does this balance with looking after our fellow humans?
